Computational Aspects of Reordering Plans
نویسنده
چکیده
This article studies the problem of modifying the action ordering of a plan in order to optimise the plan according to various criteria. One of these criteria is to make a plan less constrained and the other is to minimize its parallel execution time. Three candidate de nitions are proposed for the rst of these criteria, constituting a sequence of increasing optimality guarantees. Two of these are based on deordering plans, which means that ordering relations may only be removed, not added, while the third one uses reordering, where arbitrary modi cations to the ordering are allowed. It is shown that only the weakest one of the three criteria is tractable to achieve, the other two being NP-hard and even di cult to approximate. Similarly, optimising the parallel execution time of a plan is studied both for deordering and reordering of plans. In the general case, both of these computations are NP-hard. However, it is shown that optimal deorderings can be computed in polynomial time for a class of planning languages based on the notions of producers, consumers and threats, which includes most of the commonly used planning languages. Computing optimal reorderings can potentially lead to even faster parallel executions, but this problem remains NP-hard and di cult to approximate even under quite severe restrictions.

Computational Aspects of Risk-Based Inspection Planning
The significant computational efforts required to compute risk-based inspection plans founded on the Bayesian decision theory has hindered their application in the past. In this article, a computationally efficient method for the calculation of risk-based inspection (RBI) plans is presented, which overcomes the problem through the use of a generic approach. After an introduction in RBI planning...
متن کاملLinguistically Annotated Reordering: Evaluation and Analysis
Linguistic knowledge plays an important role on phrase movement in statistical machine translation. To efficiently incorporate linguistic knowledge into phrase reordering, we propose a new approach: Linguistically Annotated Reordering (LAR). In LAR, we build hard hierarchical skeletons and inject soft linguistic knowledge from source parse trees to nodes of hard skeletons during translation. Th...
متن کاملOptimization of Partial-Order Plans via MaxSAT
Partial-order plans (POPs) are attractive because of their least commitment nature, providing enhanced plan flexibility at execution time relative to sequential plans. Despite the appeal of POPs, most of the recent research on automated plan generation has focused on sequential plans. In this paper we examine the task of POP generation by relaxing or modifying the action orderings of a sequenti...
متن کاملRFC 5236 Improved Packet
This document presents two improved metrics for packet reordering, namely, Reorder Density (RD) and Reorder Buffer-occupancy Density (RBD). A threshold is used to clearly define when a packet is considered lost, to bound computational complexity at O(N), and to keep the memory requirement for evaluation independent of N, where N is the length of the packet sequence. RD is a comprehensive metric...
